A kitty.
Cat Boy.

Meet Cat Boy. He is 7 years old and lives with Nancy L.
"He is a rescued 'copper' Bengal. We were remodeling the bathroom and every time we removed some of the old sheet rock and tile, he would rush in, stick his head in the hole and inspect the interior of the wall. I'm guessing he was looking for mice or bugs. He was very helpful and contributed in a positive way to the job. His head is covered in sheet rock dust in this photo."

Ruby.
Da Squirrel!

Meet Da Squirrel! DS is 7 years old and lives with Henry L. and Kristin C.
"Da Squirrel! is 7 years old, yet timelessly fierce. She has been over-indulged and under-disciplined by Kristin and Henry for the last 5 years. Her hobbies include: dental hygiene, biting guests, and sleeping in the dryer (yikes!). Kristin inherited Squirrel from a previous roommate who did not see the beauty in her anti-hero personality. She is now properly appreciated and very loved."
Mellie.

Meet Mellie. She's 5 and lives with Henry L. and Kristin C.
"Mellie is a native New Mexican beauty whose tri-color fur is the pride of our household. Mellie is a shelter cat and helps prove that when folks want beauty and a sweet personality, they need look no further than their local animal shelter. One of Mellie's most wonderful charms is her amazing loud purr, which sounds like a small motor and we've dubbed 'speedboating.'"
Sophie and Harry.

Meet Sophie and Harry. Sophie is 9 and Harry is 3, and they live with Roberta G.
"Sophie (gray and white) was adopted 9 years ago from a Dutchman in a French bar. She was 8 weeks old. About 3 years ago, Harry (tabby) was left outside our door along with her two sisters, aged about 8 weeks. She was very ill and by the time she regained her health, she was ours. We brought them with us from France and they're learning to love Santa Fe, along with us."
Jessie.

Meet Jessie. She lives with Roberta G.
"We adopted Jessie from a Persian rescue organization in Phoenix about two years ago. She was three years old, declawed and had been a stray. She is a typical Exotic Short-hair in looks and in temperament--placid, gentle, loyal, undemanding and completely adorable."

Serenity Kitty.

Meet Serenity Kitty. She's 1-1/2 years old and lives with Solané V.
"Serenity Kitty has a fantastic disposition. She is always loving and very playful. She loves to watch out the widow or sit next to me or even on my lap while I am meditating or reading. Being with her makes me feel very serene, thus her name. She came as a stray when she was about 6 months old and has been a true gift."
Tuesday, February 23, 2010
Owlet.

Meet Owlet. She lives with Eve and Edward.
"Owlet, an alumna of the SF Animal Shelter, possesses exceptional communication skills. At six a.m. daily, she systematically tears up pages of bedside books and magazines to convey to her sleeping owners the urgency of breakfast. When she hears them stirring—and, inevitably, grumbling—she leaps and dances, the bell on her collar jingling joyfully in the darkness."
Zoe.

Meet Zoe. She's 8 and lives with David and Jane A.
"Zoe is a shelter cat who was brought to Santa Fe from Chama. As a kitten, she was sickly and was nursed back to health by her human mother, Jane, and a diet of cheese and canned pumpkin. She loves helping with the laundry, riding on her 'dad's' shoulders, going outside for walks (on harness and leash) and chasing her sister April."
April.

Meet April. She's 8 and lives with David and Jane A.
"April was left as a kitten on the doorstep of the local shelter. She loves to nap, watch out the window and play with her sister Zoe. Although she is a little heavy, April is on a diet and gets fresh air every day with supervised treks in the back yard to help her stay healthy."
Nellie.

Leo.

Meet Leo. He's 2 and lives with Maya.
"We found him in the arroyo next to our house last Spring. He took a liking to us and let us bring him home. He has a very playful character and is always doing something to surprise us. He loves to be outside sitting in the garden or playing with the chickens, as much as being inside watching us work and do our daily activities. He also loves to jump in the bath and play in the snow, when he's not chasing the dog's tail."
Sheba.

Meet Sheba. She's 8 years old and lives with Jane and Bob M.
"We adopted Sheba in Colorado Springs in 2002, but she was born in New Mexico. A Maine Coon Cat, Sheba has beautiful markings, including four perfect white feet. In front, they are 'church shoes' and in back, 'go-go boots.' For all her softness, Sheba is one tough kitty, ruling our four male cats."
Angel.
Gabriel.
Pandora.

Meet Pandora. She lives with Katherine and Jon C.
"This is Pandora. Her people, Jon and Katherine went to the Fort Worth, Texas animal shelter in Fall 2005 to see if they could adopt a Hurricane Katrina kitty. Pandora, a native of Fort Worth had other plans. Their feeble human minds were in no position to question her when she decided she wanted to go home with them. They have been doing her bidding ever since. She moved to Santa Fe with her human family in 2008 and has been enjoying showing off her luxurious winter coat."
Rocky.

Meet Rocky. He's 2 and lives with Katherine and Jon C.
"I was adopted from the Santa Fe PetSmart in May 2009. I live with my parents Katherine and Jon, and my big sister Pandora. I love to sleep in people’s laps, and snuggling is one of my favorite pastimes. I also love to eat any kind of cat food, especially canned food. I make sure my parents know how much I love it by meowing very loudly if they go anywhere near the food cabinet."
Buddy (AKA Scooter)

Meet Buddy (AKA Scooter). He's almost 5, and lives with Lori and Dave P.
"I was born in a southern Colorado haystack. I was brought here to a barn with two litter mates to fix their mice. My litter mates disappeared so Lori brought me home. I love yard projects and helping shovel the snow. At the old house I liked to visit the neighbors, but at our new house we have a huge yard and it has kitty fencing so I can't do that anymore. Darn!"

Barton.

Meet Barton (on the left). He's 15 and lives with Alan K.
"His twin sister Annie, on the right, died three years ago of a sudden illness. I think Barton still misses her. Since moving to NM a couple of years ago, Barton discovered the great outdoors; however, he still insists on coming in to use the litter box."
Friday, February 19, 2010
Sam.

Meet Sam. He lives with Linda M.
"I was adopted on Memorial Day, so they call me Uncle Sam. Sammy. Sam the Sham. The Samster. Sam Champion. I live in the mountains with Linda, who has the best Kitty TVs ever! I spend my days in the doorways & window ledges of my world, changing channels (windows) in between power naps. What a splendid life."
Thursday, February 18, 2010
Macaroon.

Meet Macaroon. He's 6 and lives with Susan S.
"I left the SFAS&HS when I was 8 weeks old and came to live with another kitty cookie named 'Nilla. We stay indoors all the time and have lots to keep us busy - eating, playing and sleeping. Birdwatching is also a favorite activity and here we are on YouTube scoping out birds of New Mexico. My Momcat would like to be able to use this plant holder, but it's one of my favorite places to hang out.
Best fishes, Mac."
Wednesday, February 17, 2010
Holmes.

Meet Holmes. He's 15 and lives with Janice S. and Joe M.
"At 15, life took an unfortunate turn for this handsome man. His owner died, leaving him homeless while entering the early stages of renal failure. The Shelter’s first Hospice Foster cat was mighty depressed about the whole situation when he came to live with us last November. After many hours of deep hair-mat removal and intensive lovin’, along with a high quality diet and a few homeopathic remedies, Holmes is a new man. See for yourself. What a guy!"
Patrick.

Meet Patrick. He's 9 and lives with Freddi F.
"Patrick's secret is now out of the bag. He was adopted from SFAS&HS in 2002. In an household of older female kitties (The Old Girls), Patrick lives for those moments when he can do a surprise pounce on one of them. Unfortunately, Patrick seems to be the one with missing tufts of fur. He portrays himself as a misunderstood gentleman. (But now we all know better.)"
Lady Tula.

Meet Lady Tula. She's 8 years old and lives with Claudia and Stephen I.
"We adopted Tula from SFAS&HS in April of 2009. I was at the shelter picking up the ashes of my beloved cat Lucy when Tula caught my eye. She is the absolutely sweetest cat. She loves playing with our dogs and has become a beloved member of our family."
Tuesday, February 16, 2010
Naiche.

Meet Naiche. He's 6 and lives with Perry J.
"I was living in Bisbee, AZ. A neighbor heard I was looking for a kitten. One day he came walking down my driveway with a small furry bundle. He told me he chose from a litter his friend had. I couldn't have chosen better. Maine Coon - sweet, smart and beautiful."
'Nilla.

Meet 'Nilla. She's 7, and lives with Susie S.
"I was the only female kitty in a litter of eight - my brothers were the Seven Dwarfs!! I left the SFAS&HS when I was 8 weeks old to live with another kitty cookie, the beautiful Lorna Doone; but, she got very sick and is now waiting for me at the Rainbow Bridge. I spend lots of time sitting in the sunshine and working on my Momcat's laptop computer. Life is purrfect!!"
Corbin.

Meet Corbin. He's not quite six months old, and lives with Elizabeth C.
"Adapted from the shelter in November, he’s been my daily delight ever since. Corbin makes me laugh when he plays and quiets my thoughts with his purr. His creative play has even earned him a spot on Youtube!"
Saturday, February 13, 2010
Lily.
Om and Shanti.

Meet Om and Shanti. They're five months old and live with Suzi W.
"The two have been together since Om was 4 weeks old. Shanti is two weeks older. Some kids brought the wee ones to a doctor lady to rescue. Om was in a particularly bad way, but made it through with bottle feeding and TLC. They are both thriving joyful beautiful beings."
Pushkin.
Meet Pushkin. She's about 5, and lives with Honore H.
"She found me in T or C, jumped into my truck when she was only 8 weeks old and has resided here in Madrid with us and our 5 dogs ever since. She is in charge of everyone in the household and comes when you whistle. Sometimes she helps out in our shop where she greets everyone and demands their undivided attention. Like all cats she believes she was placed here so we can adore her and cater to her every whim. Pushkin is waiting to be discovered so that she can let us retire and keep us in our rapidly approaching old age!"
Brooklyn.

Tosca.

Meet Tosca. She is about 6 years old (though she never reveals her true age) and lives with Jaye O. (who designed the Cat Walk logo above, although we promise it won't affect our judging decisions...much).
"She has come a long way from her modest beginnings at the shelter on Cerrillos Road, as you may know from her Vanity Fair interview last year. If you have a category for Centerfold, Tosca's your puss! She has had plenty of experience with Tom Cats who would give up their catnip to snuggle up to her two-tone coat. She's friendly with admirers who stop by as she spends her time inside, avoiding the paparazzi, often purring contentedly on her pet human's lap."
Little Girl.

Meet Little Girl. She's just shy of a year old, and lives with Nancy L.
"Little Girl came to me as a foster child – a badly stunted one – needing a lot of attention and ‘bottle’ feeding. By the time she came to me she had been undernourished for so long, she never would reach a normal adult size. She and I decided she would become my Little Girl, and to this day talks to me in baby talk – chirps and squeaks. She is still tiny – about the size of a 4-5 month old kitten – a fat one at that – but she has a heart of a lion. She stands up to my other cats if they try to ‘mess’ with her – she also will go to schools with me for show and tell about keeping pets. She is my Little Girl!"
Monday, February 8, 2010
Hailee.

Meet Hailee, she's about 2, and lives with Jane and Bob M.
"We adopted our newest kitty at PetSmart (thanks to SFAS&HS) the day before President Obama’s inauguration. Originally from Roswell, she had been caged most of her life. We named her Hailee, for 'Hail to the Chief.' Hailee quickly befriended our multiple cats and dogs—a lively, lovely, loving, loveable delight."
Don't Call Me Shirley.

Meet DCM Shirley. She's [redacted] years old, and lives with David.
"Cranky Miss Shirley, for short. 16 years ago, when I was living in Japan, I was in The Ginza, walking to the subway in the light rain, when a Geisha rushed toward me with a kitten in her arms. 'Please take this cat that a kind gentleman has given me. We are not allowed to have pets in our Geisha House.' Saying that, she thrust Miss Shirley into my arms and hurried away. Eleven years ago I brought her to Santa Fe with me. She hates the world and every living thing in it, but she thinks I walk on water and allows me to do whatever I want with her. She is really a Slumcat from the alleyways of Tokyo."
Leo.
